Our exhibits feature our six Connecticut artists representing a diverse selection of mediums and styles, from traditional to the abstract.

You will always find a plethora of subject matter depicting both rural and urban scenes, including New Haven and Yale University. The gallery contains a full complement of art utilizing oil, pastel, watercolor, collage/mixed media, and pottery.

About our six resident artists:

Frank Bruckmann, oil painter and a lover of plein-air, offers landscapes along the east coast. He has devoted his life to his art, with a sophistication that dominates his composition. Frank has painted New Haven from West Rock to Long Island Sound. You can visit Chapel Street, the New Haven Green, Elm Street. The Q-bridge and the famous Clock Tower for which he has won an award.

Tracey Kafka has a delicate touch creating beautifully rendered works that evoke a seamless fluidity.

Laurie Marchessault’s still life works in oil portrays her skills in taking from life the most trivial and creating a narrative with color and composition that no matter how commonplace, is elevated to a masterpiece.

Sharon Morgio, an emerging watercolorist, grabs the viewer with an incredible sense of color and composition combined with unusual points of view. This positioning draws the viewer into the page and creates a wow factor.

Ralph Schwartz is a multi-faceted artist who excels in oils, pastels and pottery. His oils and pastels invoke subtle distinctions in hue and value. His subject matter ranges from plein-air landscapes to realistic renderings of the architecture that is uniquely Yale’s.

Regina Thomas specializes in collage and a mixture of mediums. Her work has a high degree of visual and tactile imagery, creating multi-layered paintings with a 3-dimensional look. She is always evolving, utilizing her authority in the craft to stimulate and intrigue the viewer.

Every four to six weeks the viewer can explore different works by our resident artists. We have exciting exhibits planned for the balance of this year and invite our visitors to stop by and peruse the artwork. Whether you are taking a walk during your lunch break, or come into the city for shopping or a night on the town, be sure to stop by and see what’s new at Elm City Artists. Each day there will be a different artist at the gallery and perhaps you can view a new creation in the works.

We maintain a book of bios in the gallery where our visitors can read more about each artist as well as view the artists’ other works not currently in the show.
