The Guilford Art Center is the place where you are welcome to dream, create and experience art. Through our school, gallery and shop of fine craft, we strive to offer experiences that become part of our lives and help shape the soul of our community, making it a richer, stronger, and more culturally diverse place to live.

Each year at the Center’s School there are more than 280 opportunities for adults and children to create something new in art. Our instructors are working artists, and annually teach 3000 students of all ages. Instruction is offered throughout the year in media such as painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, jewelry and metalsmithing, and more. For 2009, the Center is looking into creating a state-of-the-art digital lab and a fiber and design center.

The Center’s Mill Gallery is known and respected for its exhibitions. It made the list of Top-10 exhibitions in Connecticut for 2007, and in 2008 it presented a series of group and one-person shows by nationally recognized artists. The 2009 exhibition season will focus on art and the environment with three shows: one with art made by children, another by architects, and one by nationally known contemporary artists. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.

The many events presented by the Center throughout the year also celebrate and promote the arts. These include summer’s Craft Expo on the Guilford Green, a juried show of fine, American-made crafts that has been held for more than 50 years, and the Artistry Holiday Sale, which fills the shop and gallery with one-of-a-kind, artist-made works from October through December each year.
